Spaghetti Tacos

Our culinary adventures have hit an all time low – thank you iCarly! I mean spaghetti tacos? Carbs plus carbs with some red sauce and cheese for good measure…

Minty and Rémy tuck in

Minty and Rémy were determined to make spaghetti tacos after watching the episode where this tweeny delicacy was created. For those of you who are lucky enough not to have iCarly in your lives it’s a show about teenages who have their own webcast – think snarky remarks, serious attitude, silly pranks and I’m cleverer than you brats.

the original iCarly Spaghetti Tacos

However, if you stop and think about it this is more than just a gimmick on children’s television – this is fusion – Italian meets Mexican meets American mainstream. Going so far as to compare it to a Kogi taco – that mixture of Korean BBQ and Mexican is not so far off the mark. I’m all for exploring different foods and even more keen for the kids to be thinking along these lines. So perhaps I am being a food snob and actually this is a Ladles and Jellyspoons high point?

Be careful what you wish for – I wanted to create an environment where food is fun and delicious and worth exploring – and so here I have it. The children wanting to make dinner inspired by TV – a TV dinner of sorts. Remy helped me make the tomato sauce, Minty knew exactly what ratio of spaghetti to taco she wanted, both children asked for grated cheese and the end result wasn’t that bad.

Minty enjoys her Spaghetti Taco

Rémy prefers more spaghetti in his taco and lots of cheese!

Now if we can get rid of the iCarly back chat and attitude my world would be a better place – “O.M.G. Mom, as if!”
