With a little help from Soho Home and some beautiful pink flowers I was inspired to dress up the table in pink for a relaxed mid-week winner winner chicken dinner with friends.
It felt like christmas when I arrived home to find several large boxes on my doorstep. My Liberty Loot included many items from the new Soho Home pop up at Liberty of London – which meant that for the first time we had access to Soho Home items in America. I was excited to use the new home items in both breakfast trays and when entertaining at home.
When we are in London we stay at the Dean Street Townhouse and it’s a highlight of any stay there to make yourself a cup of tea in the Burleigh black and white tea pot. When you check in to your room there are always delicious homemade baked cookies in a pretty silver tin with the word TREATS – you can now have this caddy as well as ones with TEA, COFFEE and SUGAR on them. I love them so much I put them in the center of the dinner table for my dinner party.
The crystal champagne coupes are heavy, substantial and already a favorite. Last night I served rosé Champagne to my friend Paul at our chicken dinner. He tackled cutting up the chicken in my Union apron as we sipped bubbles rosé and laughed together. I know these glasses are going to be a fixture in Rosé Corner.
Cheers to Bubbles Rosé!
The large dinner plate from Burleigh was put to good use last night – I used it for delicious vine ripened tomatoes that smelled of summer in the greenhouse. A drizzle of good quality olive oil, some salt and pepper and lots of basil leaves all showcased on this gorgeous new black and white plate.
Our dinner party last night was an impromptu mid-week school night roast chicken dinner – with spicy kale and black rice, mashed potatoes and roasted Romamesco. The beauty of the Romanesco led to a discussion of fibonacci numbers – 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21 – this is seen everywhere in nature in spirals of petals, shells, leaves, and even our brassica dinner. It’s also seen in the petals of the rose – seen here in the gorgeous floral arrangement from my friend Margie. This pink inspired my table decor and even the menu with the pink pavlova of rhubarb and raspberries.
I bought some pink pussy cookies from the Village Bakery in Los Feliz. They are giving money to the ACLU and I’m happy to support and include them at the table. The Girls and Boys ceramic signs seem deeply poignant with the rolling back of the bathroom laws for transgender kids in high school – be kind people, bullying is wrong and our kids need to be protected.
It’s easy to create a pretty table – not just with the addition of Soho Home pieces but also with vintage silver napkin rings around Pom Pom at Home Bon Appetite napkins, champagne coupes with pink champagne, beautiful pink flowers, pink pussy cat cookies and pale pink camellias from my garden.
Go with a theme – last night it was pink but it could be anything – and follow that through with decorating the table, the food you serve and even the drinks. Add great friends, good conversation and delicious food for a fun and uplifting evening.
