On the first day of Spring I’m giving myself a little makeup makeover. I’m updating my makeup routine – jazzing things up a little and making more of an effort. I don’t spend a lot of time in front of the mirror doing my makeup so I’m always looking for a quick and easy way to add glamour.
Coco Chanel once said “If you’re sad, add more lipstick and attack.”
And according to Diane Keaton “Just have fun. Smile. And keep putting on lipstick.”
and finally Elizabeth Taylor:
“Pour Yourself a drink, put on some lipstick and pull yourself together.”
It seems that lipstick is a rallying cry for all these phenomenal women. So don’t ignore – it’s time to invest in a new lipstick – and whilst you are at the makeup counter you might want to explore some other items – blue mascara, liquid liner and soft powder.
Here are my favorite items at the moment.
My Makeup Makeover for Spring
Eyes – Makeup Makeover for Spring
First up eyes – There’s nothing better than learning how to do a cat eye with some black liquid liner – with a little practice you will get the hang of it – I like to go from the middle of the eye to the corner and not much further. My go to Dior liquid liner was out of stock so Minty recommended I try Kat von D’s Tattoo Liner. Not only was this much cheaper than the Dior but so far so good – it was very easy to apply, stays in place and so far no smudging or irritation.
Along the lash line of the lower lid I used Marc Jacobs Mist Me – it’s such a pretty purple color and adds just enough pop to brighten things up without it being too much. I can’t tell you how many compliments I have got for this.
Mascara is perhaps the one make-up item I use everyday and for Spring I decided to add a subtle difference by using Dior Iconic Over Blue rather than my usual black Dior Iconic Overcurl. It’s fun and fresh and pretty.
I like to use Bobbi Brown eye gel in mahogany to fill in my eyebrows – but as with all things less is more – you really don’t want to apply very much and use the other end of the applicator to brush it through.
Foundation – Makeup Makeover for Spring
I’m not a big fan of lots of foundation – I like to use a brush to lightly apply Algenist Reveal in light around my eyes to cover up any dark circles – it’s a great concealer and supposed to be working wonders on my skin all day. I’m a huge fan of the Algenist skincare range especially the Genius daycream and the restorative over night cream – in addition to their serum and other goodies. Best of all is the Sublime Defense SPF cream that I slather on daily in an attempt to protect my skin from being ravaged by the sun.
Then I use a Bare Minerals powder foundation in Sateen No5 on top and over the rest of my face. It’s super light, you don’t need very much and like the Algenist it provides SPF.
When I was in New York recently a lovely lady at the Burberry counter in Saks Fifth Avenue recommended the Summer Glow bronzer by Burberry – it really adds just enough color to make you look sun kissed when used lightly on cheeks, forehead and chin
Lipstick – Makeup Makeover for Spring
The quickest way to update your look is with a new lipstick – it brightens up the face and should make you feel good. I love the Rouge Dior line – they smell and feel delicious. For spring I chose Rose Montaigne – a pinkish nude.
Hands – Makeup Makeover for Spring
Sephora do a great range of hand masks – I love the Argan one that is for anti-aging and evenness. It leaves my hands feeling soft and moisturized. For my manicure I like a pale pink with quite a lot of white in it that I am going to treat myself and get in gels – just as soon as the tip of my finger heals – accident with the bread knife over the weekend.
Feet – Makeup Makeover for Spring
This is my latest great find – Baby Soft Foot Peel – a natural exfoliating peel treatment with Alpha Hydroxy Acids that you put on with little booties that you wear for 60-90 minutes. It takes a few days to work when your dead dry skin starts to peel off. After a couple of days of serious sloughing my feet at softer and smoother than ever – Happy Feet! To complete the make over I used some Dior nail polish in a coral color on my toes.
So there you have it my spring fling makeup makeover – perhaps you will be inspired to update your make-up purse too – even if it’s a new purple eyeliner, blue rather than black mascara or simply a sexy new lipstick – I can’t wait to hear from you. And finally the two things that are free and will definitely improve your look – the best thing you can wear is a smile – and drink lots and lots of water – it will make your skin glow.
