We are going fishing with a who’s who of Los Angeles chefs for Memorial day – and if you are lucky enough to hook one of our VIP tickets, at Brown Paper Tickets, you can come too.
The boat departs early – 6.30 am – which means better fishing and bigger fish. Chef Cimarusti was excited at the thought of catching a large calico bass when he and I cooked up this latest fishing trip one morning whilst filleting fish in his cold room at Providence. It was so cold he lent me his chef’s jacket.
For our latest outing we have Michael Cimarusti and Donato Poto (Providence), Top Chef winner Michael Voltaggio and Adam Cole (Langham Pasadena), Neal Fraser (Grace), Alain Giraud (Anisette), Andrea Cavaliere (Cecconi’s), Dave Dahni (Grilled Cheese Truck), Michael and Marco Pietroiacovo (Truffle Brothers), Craig Min (LA Mill) and our very own mixologist for the boat Vincenzo Marianella (Copa D’Oro) all signed up to come aboard, plus a few other Chefs who have been invited but are yet to confirm.
They get to come if they bring along some delicious tasty treats for us all to share for breakfast. Truffle sliders, gourmet grilled mac n cheese sandwiches, the best chocolate chip cookies from Providence, LA Mill iced coffee and Dark and Stormy cocktails were highlights of last year’s trips… this year I’m hoping for some great breakfast pastries, perhaps some truffle eggs over easy on the griddle, some strong LA Mill coffee to wake us up, a fresh peach bellini and maybe even something Nitro or something from a Pacojet?
When fishing or eating or drinking the chefs will multi task and share recipe ideas for the catch and there will be a prize for the biggest fish caught.
If you would like the opportunity to fish with this esteemed bunch you’ll have to act fast we are only offering a limited number of VIP tickets ($99), on a first come, first served basis at Brown Paper Tickets.

Last year I organised several fishing trips for chefs following a trip with Michael Cimarusti for a Sea to Plate story for edible LA. Todd and Diane – the White on Rice Couple – made this amazing movie of our first trip – it will give you an idea of what we get up to out on the high seas…
